Image Optimizer - METINAS

Paid tools for image optimization have restricted us for years. TinyPNG with limits on the number of files. Kraken.io with a monthly subscription for features you only need twice a month. Squoosh without bulk processing. Each tool addressed something, but none did exactly what we needed: simply, quickly, and without unnecessary restrictions. We decided to take matters into our own hands and build a tool that we use ourselves every day. With a pleasant interface, no registration, and support for formats that modern websites truly need, primarily WebP and AVIF.

The entire tool is based on simplicity. You drag files into the window, choose the target format, and in a few seconds you have optimized versions. We support conversions that genuinely address website speed: PNG to WebP, PNG to AVIF, JPEG to WebP, JPEG to AVIF, WebP to AVIF, and of course optimization within the original format. For each file, the user selects between lossless compression, which preserves the original quality, and lossy compression, which significantly reduces size with minimal visible change. We automatically remove EXIF metadata and resize oversized images. Results can be downloaded individually or all at once as a ZIP archive.

The main challenge was achieving a compression quality comparable to paid tools while maintaining a simple interface. Each format behaves differently. Converting PNG to WebP requires a different approach than JPEG to AVIF, as PNG handles transparency that needs to be preserved, while JPEG optimization focuses on color accuracy. We implemented logic that automatically recognizes the content type and selects the most suitable compression settings. In bulk processing, the backend must handle dozens of files simultaneously without slowing down, which required thorough optimization of the processing on the server side.
